Santorini Island tour (4 to 5 hours)
Visually, Santorini is the most spectacular of
the isles in the Cyclades. With its brilliant flooded caldera,
high cliffs and charming villages, it is the Greek Isle of
everyone’s dreams. Our tour will take us to Santorini’s highest
peak, crowned by the Mount Profitis Ilias Monastery. At 883
feet, Mt. Profitis Ilias rugged landscape is largely composed of
volcanic rocks as a result of hundreds of eruptions during the
last two million years, some of them being large caldera-forming
events. Here, in this remote spot, we’ll have an ideal photo
opportunity to capture the beauty of this ancient island.
We’ll discover the village of Pyrgos, which was
the capital of Santorini until 1800. Here we’ll be able to
admire the beautiful old houses and the Venetian Fortress
crowned by several churches.
Our half-day tour then takes us to one of the
island’s most famous modern wineries. Viniculture is an ancient
art in Santorini, and the fact that vines thrive at all is
amazing considering the fact that the island has limited water
resources. But the volcanic soil is an excellent medium for
producing grapes, especially the Assyrtiko grape – a rare, white
variety.
After our visit, we’ll drive through the
countryside to visit Oia. This traditional Greek village of
whitewashed cubes is perched impossibly high on cliffs at the
north west tip of the island. Here, take in the stunning views
of the island from one of the charming cafés or stroll above the
rooftops of the homes carved into the cliffs and gaze into the
deep blue waters of the caldera far below.
From Oia village, we’ll drive to the cliff top
town of Fira. Our tour ends here.
Comfortable clothing, and comfortable walking shoes are
recommended. Sunglasses, hat, and sunscreen are suggested.

Fira Town, Prehistoric Museum and Oia Village (4
hours)
Your tour will begin in Fira,
with a visit the newly built Prehistoric Museum of Thira, the second largest
pre-historical museum in Greece.
The museum
houses finds from the excavation site of Akrotiri, as well as
other sites on the island. The exhibition is structured in four
units, referring to the history of research at Thira, the
geology of Thira, the island's history from the Late Neolithic
to the Late Cycladic I period and the heyday of the city at
Akrotiri. The exhibits include fossils of plants that flourished
before the human habitation of Thira as well as archeological
objects dating back to 3300 B.C.
After Oia village, we’ll
return to the
town of Fira. Our tour ends here.
The rest of the
day is yours to wander the twisting alleys and pedestrian
walkways of Fira Town, filled with galleries, jewelry shops, and
Greek souvenirs.
Please note that on Mondays the Museum is closed. We can
substitute it with a visit to Pyrgos village and a local winery
instead.
Comfortable clothing, and comfortable walking shoes are

Santorini Traditional Villages (4 hours)
Your tour will begin with a drive
to the village of Pyrgos, which was the capital of
Santorini until 1800. Here you will be able to admire the
beautiful old houses and the Venetian Fortress crowned by
several churches. Explore this typical example of a fortified
Cycladic village, with great panoramic views all around the
coast.
Our tour continues with a visit to Mesa Gonia. This
village suffered greatly during the 1956 earthquake, and many of
its residents abandoned it to settle in the nearby village of
Kamari. However, the village has made a comeback of late, and is
certainly worth visiting for its traditional architecture.
Nearby is the village of Exo Gonia, where you will visit
the famous church of Panagia Episkopi, a Byzantine-style
church dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The
church was built in the end of the 11th century with, all
expenses paid by the Byzantine emperor Alexios Komninos.
